Difficult to start and follow manual
The generator required a wires that didn't come with it. This is not in the manual. We wasted an electrician's day trying to figure it out. It has been 2 days and Haven't yet been able to start the generator. Please improve the manual and add all the parts needed to start. Not everyone has access to a certified generac technician. Off-grid systems are used by DIYers and we need user friendly manuals and systems.

I have owned a 15KW Generac since 2002 and it has been very reliable.
I live on the Central Coast of CA. I was a diesel engine mechanic once and my "Baby" was V-12 (71) Detroit Diesel running an 350KW 3-phase 208/240 generator. (1970s.)
Now in Computer Science/InfoSec I bought a similar genset in 2002 (12KW with NG, 15 KW on Propane)--it was a SAS-70 requirement for the computers/web sites I was hosting (6-Solaris Enterprise class boxes, 20+ Amps in all) to have 24x7x365 power as part of my SLA, with a 99.97% uptime reliability requirement.
Not long after the installation, we had 3, 8-hour power failures in 3 months! (I live in an "Urban Forest.") ;-)
It is now the end of 2023. Little problems have occurred with that genset, but it has always come through, with it running continuously for up to 60 hours at a time last year, on 4 seprate occasions, due to the "Atmospheric Rivers" that hit CA in Jan/Feb.
Now we are going to have an "El Nino" Year, so I've put in drains to keep my basement from flooding and have been checking my genset. Running on NG, I expect it to last even longer without needing ignition parts or spark plugs.

Buyer Beware 550hrs and 2 blown AVRs and 3 stators/alternators
This is the biggest garbage model ever
Generac doesn’t stand behind their lemon product when they know there is a problem.
They hide it and redesigned it without the problem AVR part, instead of recalling the garbage. They had no problem replacing 2 AVRs and 3 stators/alternators under warranty and one actually blew the same day after repair 😵💫. I requested a replacement as obviously this model has a lot of issues. Nope still they thought that was ok because it was under warranty 😵💫 The repairs cost them more than I paid for the generator itself and Generac didn’t see a problem again. Last fall the oil started blowing out of the rings and was accumulating in the airbox. The warranty was over unfortunately but the Generac technician told us it would cost almost as much to fix it than to buy a new one. He said this model is garbage and don’t put any money into it as it will blow up again as they are having major problems with them.
He told us how the take the excess oil out with a shot glass and refill with oil after every use and hope it lasts the winter. Very devastating news and Yes that winter was brutal for my husband outside in the freezing after every use.Now this winter we obviously need the generator as no sun AND the AVR blew for the 3rd time. How is that even possible when we have 550 hours on the generator, have had it already replaced 2xs and blown up again but yet the advertisement says it’s so hight tech it doesn’t need servicing or an oil change until 500 hours??? We went over and above and have it serviced and oil change every year anyways . What more would they want us to do ???
This has made our first off grid experience a nightmare as we only use it in the winter when there is no sun as we live in the wilds of Quebec and winter is brutal. You are a prisoner in your own home because you cannot trust your generator to work as that’s been our experience. One month now AGAIN with a back up gas generator with no help from Generac. Every time we go down from the generator we have the expenses💰 from the service guy the electrician and high test gas at 172 a litre to run a small back up generator that barley runs our house. It’s getting ridiculous, that’s 3xs now we have had to pay that. How is that piece of mind owning a Generac as you advertise. We never would have moved and build a new home off grid if we knew we would have to deal with this. Please do your home work as when I came on here today to find out and read that SO many other people are having the same problems as us and Generac doesn’t care one bit. It’s very disturbing actually as it’s made our off grid experience very frustrating and expensive.

Off grid best option
If your off the grid and need a secondary power source to charge batteries, this is your generator. Works hand in glove with outback solar equipment.

15 kw Generac generator backs up the wind and sun
We have lived off grid in SW Wyoming for 35 years, and gone through a few small generators, so we upgraded to a 15 kw Generac. This helps us get through cloudy and windless winter days. It does an excellent job!

Ecogen 15kw
Had a menonite business replace a genset they say locked up... Though the friend I gave it to got it started. They swapped out to ecogen and supposed to put in a new pnl with more breakers. They said not listed on the work order and the job cost me ten grand. The electrician took an extra day rewiring my system and trying to destroy my zantrex system. When done they offered a one year warranty and no visits or oil changes. I could have bought almost 3 gen sets for the same price; though not off grid type. Who knew menonites are just as likely to burn as everyone else. Word of wisdom... Don't move to Pa. Which most call the land of the lost. Unless you like silly greedy people and new jersey and the worst rural hospitals in America.

Disappointed in Warranty and Maintenance Agreement
We just purchased and had installed a 24KW Backup Generator and two Generac transfer switches. After they have been installed I have been informed that we must have an annual maintenance contract for $495 or the warranty is not valid. I worked for a major manufacturer of Agricultural and Homeowner products using Kohler, Briggs and Kawasaki engines in products that honored a warranty without a maintenance agreement. If Generac requires this, the product must not be reliable and I have made the wrong decision on purchasing a Generac. Why would I pay $495 for someone to come check the oil level on the engine? In theory it may only have 5-6 hours a year on the engine that cycles on once every 2 weeks. I am not going to pay $495 a year and I will check and change the oil myself when necessary.

Does exactly what we need manually for off-grid living
After 13 years of off-grid living with 1300 watts of solar, rainwater collection and no electricity, cellular phone or broadband service available, we decided, as we age into our late 70's, to upgrade to improve marketability of our 50 acres to folks not accustomed to off-grid living. The folks at Cove Generators were very easy to work with, very helpful and they understood our particular needs for manual operations of the off-grid 15KW Generac propane Eco-gen. We wanted manual operation of a Generac machine that has all sorts of automatic technology built in. They got it done. We can charge our 12 volt DC batteries separately and power our entire cabin with 110 volts AC separately without taxing our inverter. These are fine local folks who know how to get things done and they will get it done right, as promised. We recommend Cove Generators, unconditionally.
